How Much Exercise Do You Need Everyday?

The question is best answered depending on what you want to accomplish.  Are you on a quest to be like Arnold Schwarzenegger and compete in a fitness total USA body building championship?  Or do you just want a lean, shapely body that you can show off in the beach?

Do you want to shed excess weight?  If so, this can call for various levels and intensities of workout routines, depending on how much weight you want to lose within a certain period of time. Or maybe you just want to remain healthy with a strong heart.

Your Objective Counts
If you know your fitness objectives, you can easily determine the amount of exercise you need every day.  You can consult with a competent USA fitness trainer on the routines you need but the important thing is to have the determined drive to achieve your fitness objective.

Minimum Exercise
If all you want is to maintain your current fitness level, assuming you’re in top form, there are certain things to remember.  One important rule is that you need to burn off the same calories that you took in so you don’t store them as fat and lose your shape.  Secondly, remember that up until the first half of the 20th century, people, especially in rural America, remain fit because they are always active – walking or biking to get to their destination, chopping firewood, doing the laundry, tending the farm, cleaning the house, climbing trees to pick fruits, doing some carpentry work, etc. These things are hardly done today as most people lead sedentary lives in front of the PC or TV.

To remain fit, an adult typically needs at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity every week, such as swimming or brisk walking. Halve the time if it’s an intense activity like running.  And this should be spread evenly over the week. Now if you want to lose weight or build muscles, you need to increase your activity significantly more.
